Day 75: Graffiti in the house!

They guys were putting around doing odds and ends most of the morning while I walked the entire building with the electrician marking where to put all the lights, electric outlets and switches. It's exhausting thinking about all the detail for every room. I really needed to think about where everything will be, how I'm going to use the space and how everything will be laid out. And then it hit me. I was planning the entire house alone AND as if I was going to live alone for the rest of my life! Needless to say it was quite the depressing morning/day.

Back to the house...here's the electrician at work

He looked at the plan and marked everything that was on the plan to the wall but before he marked it, he would double check with me first.

It took about 2 hrs give and take a little. We had to double check with Luis a lot and sometimes Jose. Since we changed the door in the bathroom, we needed to do a little juggling with the toilet, sink and shower.

Finally Jose suggested we move the wall on the right that was already up. Luckily it was Jose's idea...Luis wasn't a happy camper when he heard we had to knock something down. Nevertheless, they knocked it down within the hour.

The rest of the house went relatively smoothly. This is the kitchen

This is the workshop

The other side of the workshop. That window will be reduced again...by the end of the project I have a feeling the window will only be one block big. :I

As we were marking the house, Luis mentioned that long time ago they only needed 1 can of spray paint and there would still be left over but now a days with the regulations and all, (and i guess the size of my house...) we used 2 cans.

After the electricity stuff, the guys started building the wall for the staircase. I asked for a little decorative shelf. Esteban asked me what I was going to put there and I said "something" then he gave me the look and in his eyes I heard him say..."OMG!" Needless to say, he's not a fan of my quirky ideas. Because of his reluctance to understand, I began thinking of the negatives....it would be a pain to clean. there's no light so i can't put a plant....Should I make it a window? I need help and I need to decide fast.

These are the little makeshift railings they made. so cute. The real ones will be concrete. I think I've decided that the top of the step will be wood but everything else white concrete. kind of like the greek houses.

Then they did the roof top edge because I asked for it to be a rounded edge. When I saw it I started to panic. I don't know if it's exactly what I want. But then I drove back to the building in Villaverde...and I think it's going to be ok. The only thing is I'm worried that you can see where the brick ends and the round top starts... I need to ask Luis about this before they do any more.

This is the frame that they made for the the rounded edges.

Then they dump the cement. (it's cement with pebbles and not sand)

Luis made this wooden frame to keep the height the same. (they were moving too fast for me get a video...sorry)

Then they had a little discussion to sort it out

And then got working.

This is the end result but I don't think it's the final coat. I think a few layers of something will go over to cover it.....Ooo, I hope it doesn't turn out like the building in Villaverde because if it does....I might want them to scrap it!

About the stairwell, turns out the guys just dumped the cement in the stairwell regardless of if I wanted it or not. I thought they were just going to go ahead and do it...but they were waiting for my Ok. Anyway, today I gave them the OK. They started raising the foundation by laying thin blocks and then filling it with the debris from all the junk pile that's been accumulating. It just so happens it was just enough to fill it all.

They finished it before I left but I forgot to take a picture of it. the little dust that was there gave me a bit of a sinus infection. :( I'm weak, I know :(
