Day 58: One down, hopefully no more to go

  • Y uno cayo

Today we saw a brick fall from the roof! But let's look at how they do the rooftop first.

Un bloque cayo. pero vamos a ver como sucedió todo.

This is the Workshop. Only half of it is finished.

This is the dance studio. It was finished completely and dried by the time I got there

They let me go up and this is what was done....(almost everything)

Luis showed me which cement was poured at what time and it was already dried. He said that this concrete is 300 grade (i don't know if that's the correct terminology) meaning that it can withstand 300kg in one cubic centimetre. He said that contractors are all different and some people use cheaper concrete which contains less cement. (The guys just taught me the difference between concrete and cement. Cement is the powder stuff that hardens and the Concrete is the mix of pebbles and concrete and sand (or whatever they use to make it) that make up the slab.

So if there is more cement in the mix, then it dries faster. (something like that)

It took a while to refill the cement truck. So the guys had a little break in the living room.

When the truck finally came, The guys went to work. and They let me hang around. (I swear, I feel like a 3 yr old just standing next to them staring dying to be a part of the work) Being sweet guys, they let me do little things. like holding the tools for them and passing it to them. hold the cement vibrator and switch it on and off when they needed it.

Sentí como una nina de 3 anos mirando los chicos trabajando lo mas cera que posible. Eran super guay y me dejieron a ayudar un poco. Aun que no tenia botas.

In this video Guzman is telling me this is actually my job but I don't have boots on. ;P

A close up on the dumping of concrete.

Passing the vibrator through everything.

Smoothing it all out.

This is what it looks like when the concrete falls in.

Here's the crane operator. The box having from his belt is the remote control and it's wireless.

And just as the guys were dumping the concrete in the last corner..... a block fell out of the ceiling and fell splat on the floor. They had to work fast to fix it before the concrete dried up.

Here they are cleaning the mess that fell.

That was the end of their day. Now that all the concrete is still drying there's not much they can work on without disturbing the drying process. So they're taking the day off. Luis told me what they were going to do on Friday. But I forgot. anyway, just so you know. there won't be a post tomorrow.

These blocks (I think) are in preparation for the walls of my bedroom. They've got lots of work prepared for me :) so excited.

The best way to end the day is with a selfie.
