Day 48: 2 levels done, 1 to go

The cement went into the split levels today. (Guest bedroom & bathroom, Office and bathroom)...uhhh, I just realised you can't reach a bathroom without going up and down stairs...I hope it doesn't become a problem. Luis said, 'Now the rooms are of normal height. 2.6m". Height has been a huge issue since we began this project. Starting from Day 1 of designing the place.

Below are where the stairs will be.

This is the full bathroom by the office.

This is the office.

When I got here, the cement had just been poured. I wish I had seen it being poured and levelled. Now I get why Guzman was wearing the rain boots. Wish I saw them leaving it all but i guess I've seen it done before on sidewalks.

I was tempted to put in a foot print or hand print or write my name. But I think the guys would have had a fit.

Below you can see the wood frame that's keeping the cement from dripping over. Can't wait to see the stairs. not sure if they're using blocks or cement.

This is looking into the office from outside.

Guest bedroom

Luis showed me the windows that they had made smaller. Originally I asked them to make the windows in the dance studio smaller and only the west window in the workshop smaller but they did the east side window as well. It didn't turn out so bad so I didn't say anything. It's not bad and honestly, I didn't know what the windows were going to look like anyway. The studio looks perfect. The workshop is better but because they made both windows smaller the west side still looks the same size.

Below is the west window. With Guzman as a reference, it's pretty tall eh?

They asked me how far I wanted to doors to come out. If this were the dance studio, I'd say keep the doorway as big as possible. but since it's the workshop, we decided to put walls up to frame the door. Then, they let me help put the blocks in. Below, Luis is marking how far the blocks will come out.

Every 2 rows of blocks, they drill in 2 steel rods into the column to keep the blocks from falling over. I got to drill in 2 holes but I sucked at hammering in the steel rods.

The walls finished. I learned how to split the block in half. I don't know if the guys were joking around with me, but I don't think they like the way I hammer. Because I don't hit it hard enough. I guess it's too girly. But whatever, I get the job done. (Now I'm starting to wonder if I'm helping, of if I'm just causing trouble)

Me alegre de haber podido ayudar hoy. Pero hoy estaban 'making fun of me!!!" Riéndose de mi :( espero que estoy ayudando y no haciendo mas problemas para ellos.

Here are the other bricks they laid today.

Dance studio windows. Perfect. Love it.
